Oakland University women’s swimming, diving team defeats Wright State

Oakland University’s women’s swimming and diving team finished with a victory against Wright State Saturday, Nov. 2.

So far the team hasn’t had a difficult time with competition. They are currently 4-1 and looking forward to what the season has in store.

Switching to the Horizon League will bring new competition to the Oakland swimming and diving teams, according to swimmer, Megan Hunter.

“With the switch to the Horizon League, we’re going to have a lot of challenges that the team’s never had,” Hunter said. “I’m excited to see how my team rises to the challenges.”

Hunter’s role for the team is backstroke and distance races. She placed second in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:00:39 Saturday night. Teammate Stella Pasalidou took first in the race with a time of 1:00:20.

“Personally, my only goal is to race myself. I want to prove to myself, with my improved times, that I worked harder than the last two years. As for my team, I want to see us keep up our league meet wins, and see more of us qualify for NCAA’s. That’d be perfect,” Hunter said.

Teammate Tricia Grant, also had an impressive start to the season. Grant pulled out two diving victories against Wright State.

Grant was recently named Horizon League’s women’s diver of the week for the second time this year. She won in both the diving events, for the third time this season.

The women’s team will host their next meet against Bowling Green Friday, Nov. 8 at 4 p.m.
