First Healthy Home & Living Expo to showcase products, raise money

The first Healthy Home & Living Expo to benefit Stoney Creek High School Athletics is coming up on March 25.

It will be held from noon until 5 p.m. All ticket proceeds will go toward the SCHS teams.

The event will highlight over 30 exhibitors with healthy living products, services and programs. Many will offer free samples and exclusive show specials.

This includes a number of beauty and personal care exhibitors, such as It Works! Displaying their natural facial care line and supplements, representatives will have a contest to give away free samples or spa sessions.

Opulent Blends, which sells a full line of natural, vegan personal care and home products, will offer deals including a free sample of their lavender bar soap. In addition, The Oils Nurse, LLC will provide education on the use of plant-based medicine with doTerra products and give out samples of essential oils.

Looking for a place to get fit? Orangetheory Fitness will offer a free session of its heart-rate monitored, high-intensity workout. Sola Life and Fitness will also demonstrate recipes and raffle off two gift certificates for cooking demonstrations.

For those in need of some de-stressing, Body Therapy Massage will be providing free massages. Complimentary evaluations of problematic health conditions will be provided by Vitality Precision Chiropractic, which uses NASA Space-certified technology.

After working up an appetite, grab vegetarian or vegan concessions at the Nosh Pit Detroit food truck. Or stop by Xahndra’s Veggie Table for Juice Plus+ product samples made from 30 different fruits, vegetables and grains.

“The Healthy Home & Living Expo to Benefit is a chance for Stoney to come together with the community to really exemplify community values of health and wellness,” said Dr. Cathryn Skedel, Stoney Creek High School principal in a press release. “We look forward to the opportunity to partner with so many wonderful local businesses to bring forth products and services that can benefit community health and support the athletic program at Stoney Creek.”

Don’t miss the expert wellness presentations scheduled throughout the day. Anne Klauke, a registered dietitian, will be preparing a plant-based recipe using superfood ingredients at 1 p.m.

Then, at 2:30 p.m., listen to Jill Massura, certified life coach and licensed wellness therapist, as she discusses the four keys to promoting happiness and well-being for the family. Or join Jay Mitchell at 4 p.m. and learn how to grow produce at “Urban Organic Gardening: As Simple As 1-2-3.”

Attendees can also enjoy live music from a variety of artists, such as 17-year-old Lake Orion vocalist Seeka Woodworth, as well as an acoustic set from 14-year-old Lia K Catallo.

The expo is being put on by MI Green Team, Michigan’s leading green and healthy living event producer.

“We are excited about the opportunity to bring leading healthy product and program providers to Rochester area families, while generating funds for local sports teams to get equipment, uniforms and other essentials,” said John Batdorf, general manager for MI Green Team, in a press release.

He said, depending on attendance, thousands of dollars could be raised.

“My hope is that people leave the expo with a renewed commitment to develop health and wellness in their lives and in the lives of their children,” Skedel said. “We all need a little inspiration sometimes, as well as a connection to local organizations to help us achieve our health and wellness goals.”

She mentioned that great communities all over the world value the health and well-being of their citizens.

“That is an ethic, commitment and a community value that makes the Rochester area a destination school district and community in which people seek to live.”

General admission to the expo costs $5. VIP admission is also available for $10, which includes a door-prize drawing entry and a tote bag from the presenting sponsor, MacKellar Promotional Marketing of Rochester Hills.
