As of 12:30 a.m. Friday morning, there is still no update on the American Association of University Professors and Oakland University contract negotiations. The deadline for the 2009 faculty negotiations was midnight Friday.

The American Association of University Professors and Oakland University were shut out of the bargaining room today after the state-appointed mediator was unable to meet with both sides because of a scheduling conflict.
Though both parties are having a difficult time negotiating, Miller said a strike is not part of their agenda. She said the AAUP is interested in having a calm, normal beginning of the semester and is hoping to solve all problems before walking into the classroom on Sept. 5.
The 2009 agreement, which was set to expire on Aug. 15, was extended by 48 hours as both sides continue their bargaining efforts.
On Aug. 2, Oakland University submitted their initial economic package to the AAUP. The package included, but was not limited to, cutting teacher’s summer pay by 25 percent, eliminating all across-the-board pay raises and a “drastic” cut in health insurance coverage.
With the current teachers’ union, American Association of University Professors (AAUP) and the Oakland University teacher contract expiring Aug. 15, discussions have begun over a new three-year teacher contract.
