DVD rental program in the works

The Oakland University Senate, a legislative body comprised of faculty teachers from all departments and deans of campus colleges, assembled in Gold Rooms A and B on Thursday, Sept. 23, for their first meeting of the semester.
Currently, OU offers programs to 18 different countries on five different continents. AHA International, a national organization dedicated to creating student programs for studying abroad, sponsors twelve of these trips.
Individuals or teams of any size must submit a one-page business plan by Oct. 22. Lauren Bigelow, a member of Accelerate Michigan’s media outreach team and executive director of the competition, said business plans should be concise, tout the advantages of the idea, describe its potential market, and explain how the idea will be put into action.
Oakland University’s cross-country team members are taking great strides in Nike’s Reuse-A-Shoe program by donating all sorts of used shoes this semester. The team has set up used running shoe donation boxes in the Oakland Center, as well as the Recreation Center.
The Advising Resource Center’s Degree and Major Fair on Wednesday gave students a chance to experience each major in speed-dating style. Approximately 100 students met in the Gold Rooms to spend three-and-a-half minutes learning about each major available to them.
At Monday’s Oakland University Student Congress meeting, OU registrar Steve Shablin spoke regarding the progress of combined registration, new campus initiatives were discussed, and new members were introduced.
Sorority and fraternity members are excited this week as orientation kicks off on campus in the Greek community.
When Ryan D’Silva inquired into the Film Makers’ Guild last year, he found that the club was no longer active. Seeing a need for the club on campus, he gathered the previous members and reactivated the organization. After a year of serving as the club’s president, D’Silva turned over the organization to Greg Bastien.
Flag Football registration ends on Sept. 28; The next blood drive in the OC is on Tuesday, Sept. 28; OU will receive the keys to the outreach building on Sept. 22.
