A new initiative is looking to lend a helping hand to hungry students. The program, backed by Student Congress, would create a student run food pantry on campus. The pantry would be supported by monetary and food-based donations, as well as students willing to volunteer their time.

All OU night classes and campus events are cancelled, according to Ted Montgomery, director of media relations at OU. Meadow Brook Hall, Meadow Brook Theatre and athletics have the right to determine whether or not they will cancel their events, however.

For the second year in a row, the Greater Rochester Area Branch of American Association of University Women will sponsor an essay contest for students to help observe Women’s History Month. The subject of the essay, “A Woman of Importance to Me,” is meant to recognize women who have made a difference on a personal level or a larger scale.

A nationwide search has been ongoing for a permanent dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Oakland University. In the fall of 2012, a committee was formed and is currently working with a search firm called Academic Search to find candidates. There are 12 members in the committee and professor and chair of the psychology department, Todd Shackelford, is serving as committee chair.

Student Congress held its elections kickoff event Tuesday, introducing attendees to the three tickets running for the student body presidency. Following introductions, each of the candidates were asked to participate in a drawing activity, where they drew the place they first met their running mate.

Dave Dulio, search committee chair, said the process started in August 2012 when the committee formed. It also decided to hire an additional search firm to help the search committee. The committee decided on the search firm Academic Search to aid in the process of hiring a new provost. Both groups began meeting in September 2012.

The construction of the Elliott Carillon Tower, to be completed September 2014, will take place in the area between the Oakland Center, Kresge Library and O’Dowd Hall. This addition to Oakland University's campus will necessitate the movement of some picnic tables and hammocks which currently occupy the area.
