When I look around Oakland University, a 1964 lyric by folk legend Bob Dylan runs through my head. “… The times they are a-changin’.” When you first pull into the University entrance, you immediately see the construction of the new Health Science building, which is ironic because Oakland’s image is also under the knife.

Homework, class, work — college students live busy lives, but every other Wednesday at City Grind Skate Park, students take a break from the everyday stress to board. Skateboarding recently became an Olympic sport, increasing its popularity, along with new trends like long boarding. Oakland University followed suit with the creation of the skateboard club at OU last October.

Oakland University men’s and women’s outdoor track teams were both slated to finish 8th in the Summit League preseason polls released on March 15.
Even with the early season stumbles, the Golden Grizzlies softball team isn’t short of any confidence. The team’s 2011 season record of 17-29 and conference record of 8-15 aided in their fall to eighth place in the Summit League preseason poll.

The Oakland University hockey team defeated rival Davenport Panthers 3-2, in the Onyx Ice Arena on Friday, to claim the coveted Good Luck Duck trophy for the first time since the 2007 season.
