Oakland University will receive $45 million in state aid and an additional one time $830,800 in tuition-rate bonus because of its 3 percent tuition increase for the 2012-13 school year.

Former BOT Chairperson receives reprimand for conflict of interest complaint

Henry Baskin, former Oakland University Board of Trustees Chairperson, received a reprimand from the State of Michigan Attorney Grievance Board yesterday for the conflict of interest complaint brought against him by Robert Edick, deputy administrator of the Attorney Grievance Commission in April 2011. He is also required to pay all administrative costs and fees.

Student on bicycle hit by vehicle

The accident took place by the Recreation Center. The student was hit while they were exiting Parking Lot 16 onto Pioneer Drive.

AAUP, OU reach tentative agreement on faculty contracts

According to the OU bargaining diaries, the agreement will provide across-the-board pay increases, merit pay adjustments and benefit restructuring. It will extend for the next three years.

As of 12:30 a.m. Friday morning, there is still no update on the American Association of University Professors and Oakland University contract negotiations. The deadline for the 2009 faculty negotiations was midnight Friday.

AAUP faculty contracts extended through Monday

Though both parties are having a difficult time negotiating, Miller said a strike is not part of their agenda. She said the AAUP is interested in having a calm, normal beginning of the semester and is hoping to solve all problems before walking into the classroom on Sept. 5.

Oakland’s website back up

The Oakland University website is back up after being down for several hours over the weekend because of hardware failure, Chief Information Officer Theresa Rowe said. The website’s outage was unplanned and was restored after Rowe submitted a tech report to IT officials at 8 a.m. this morning.

Warner Bros. tornado movie being filmed on campus

The building is part of the set for an upcoming Warner Bros. thriller about high school students documenting the aftermath of a tornado. It is being directed by Steven Quale.

State allocates $30 million to the new engineering building

Gov. Rick Snyder signed a bill authorizing $300 million in spending at Michigan universities today, including a $30 million allocation for the new engineering building at Oakland University, the Detroit Free Press reports.

Oakland University Board of Trustees Chairperson Henry Baskin pled no contest Thursday to the sexual misconduct charges that were made against him by Attorney Grievance Commission Deputy Administrator Robert Edick in August 2011.

Baskin has a June 1 hearing at the Detroit Disciplinary offices for the remaining charge — a conflict of interest — under the circumstances that there is a risk a personal relationship with a client may become problematic.
