It’s that time of year again. Or, that is, it is that kind of year again: election year. Enter cliché promises, flag-waving, red-herrings, bandwagons, the straw man, ad hominem, tu quoque and every other fallacy known to humankind. Expect new ones to arrive, too.
Young members at the Royal Oak Public Library were treated to a comic book workshop presented by local artist Lee Gaddies this past Thursday night.
2012 will be a historic year for many reasons. Here are just a few: The London Games. Euro 2012 (I am Hispanic and I love soccer. What can I say?). The 2012 Presidential Election (this is big only for Americans. I suppose it is important to any governments that sponsor terrorism, too). The end of the world.
At first glance Justin Green appears to blend in with the mass of students at Oakland University. The 19-year-old sophomore electrical engineering major rocks a North Face jacket, a baseball cap, jeans and clean cut hair. Then he pulls out a deck of cards and starts doing magic tricks.
The atmosphere was mellow, inviting and warm. Soft couches rested against the brick walls which neighbored earthy green and burnt brown drywall. To the right of the couches, tables and customers was a pack of aliens of all shapes, sizes and colors. Robots gathered in throngs, glaring at all who walk by. A monkey in a throwback space helmet smiled a sneaky smile, snickering at those shocked at the head right next to it that was tearing to pieces.
Oakland University will be hosting daylong music intensive events this January and February in an effort to invite younger students and allow them to taste music on a university level.
Michigan native Dan Goggin, creator, composer and writer of the off-Broadway smash hit “Nunsense” will be at Oakland University directing the shows 7th and final sequel, “Nunset Boulevard.” For Goggin, “Nunset Boulevard” is the culmination of a wild idea that went viral.
