Even with the early season stumbles, the Golden Grizzlies softball team isn’t short of any confidence. The team’s 2011 season record of 17-29 and conference record of 8-15 aided in their fall to eighth place in the Summit League preseason poll.

Senior Liz Ecker never thought her name would dot the pages of the Oakland University women’s golf record book, but now she will graduate as one of the greatest women’s golfers in OU history.
At Troy High School, Bridget Dennis, a senior majoring in vocal education, discovered her real passion and future career in music education through an independent study class with her choir director, in which she taught a choir a song and conducted it at a concert.
The campus celebrated the grand opening of the OU Clean Energy Research center on Thursday, March 31. The goal of the new center is to provide a place for students and faculty to develop clean energy alternatives. Plans for this center, located under the School of Engineering and Computer Science (SECS) as well as in the Shotwell-Gustafson Pavilion, have been in place for years but did not take action until it received proper funding.
They can be seen courtside at every Oakland University basketball game, but the OU dance team does more than just perform a routine at halftime.
On April 12, the department of writing and rhetoric will host the 10th Festival of Writers Showcase in Banquet Rooms A and B of the Oakland Center from 12-3 p.m. The Festival of Writers is hosted at the end of every semester to allow writing students a chance to showcase their work.
The 14th annual OU Day At The Capitol took place Tuesday March 18. This event is hosted every year to provide an easy way for Oakland University students, faculty, and staff to travel to Lansing (the Capitol Building) and meet with their state representatives to express their concerns.
Oakland University’s judo club has been active for eight years, and the current team consists of 15 members. Morgan Imlay, the club’s president, said the team is looking to expand and add more members.
Oakland University will soon add another team to its growing roster of club sports. The OU women’s rugby team is currently recruiting members for its first season.

According to the International Justice Mission, between 600,000 and 800,000 people are victimized by human trafficking every year. Inspired by this information, OU student congress will be hosting Not for Sale, an event to raise awareness of sex trafficking and to inform students how they can help put an end to it.
A search for gymnastics on the Oakland University website reveals no results. This is about to change as Oakland will soon have its first gymnastics club. Madeline Mazzeo, a sophomore majoring in Spanish and history, and Tiffany Turner, a freshman elementary education major, are both former competitive gymnasts who miss the sport and want to give Oakland students an opportunity to participate in gymnastics.
