According to Demovsky’s tweet, an Oakland shift from the Summit League to the Horizon League is a “done deal.” If this happens, the Golden Grizzlies will have more opportunities presented to them for tougher competition both in conference and out, as well as a higher chance to return to the NCAA Tournament.

The Oakland University Athletics Department has staffed two different departments for this very purpose. The sports medicine department works hand-in-hand with the strength and conditioning department to provide medical assistance for the injuries athletes may come in with and aid in their recovery and training.

Oakland men’s basketball failed to notch their third straight win against SEC opponent Tennessee Monday night, falling 77-50 in Knoxville, Tenn. For their second straight game, Oakland failed to shoot over 30 percent, shooting only 29 percent good for 16-56 attempts. Oakland shot 27.6 percent Friday night at Michigan State, making 16 of 58. The scoring stats are the lowest since Oakland joined Division I.

One of the bigger storylines of the night was when forward Drew Valentine met his younger brother, Michigan State freshman Denzel Valentine, for the first time in college basketball action. The younger Valentine recorded 10 points along with 10 rebounds in the Spartans victory. The Golden Grizzlies senior recorded just five points and four rebounds.

Oakland University men’s basketball continues their road trip tonight, when they travel to East Lansing to face in-state foe Michigan State Spartans (3-1). The game is scheduled for tipoff at 8:15 p.m. at the Breslin Center.

For the first time in the program’s history, Oakland University’s women’s soccer team advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament after defeating No. 4 Ohio State in a shootout. The Golden Grizzlies (11-5-4) defeated the Ohio State Buckeyes (16-4-2) 3-1 in a shootout Saturday, Nov. 11.

Senior Kylie Schalz climbed 103 flights of stairs Sunday morning as she participated in the SkyRise Chicago event at the Willis Tower in downtown Chicago. The Oakland University softball athlete made the climb in about an hour and a half, accompanied by her parents and high school friends. For Schlaz, the climb meant more to her than just raising money for the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, who organized the SkyRise event. In 2011, she was paralyzed following scoliosis surgery.

With a record of 6-1 overall, Oakland is currently ranked fifth — falling from third after a loss from Florida Gulf Coast two weeks ago. The Golden Grizzlies have recorded one shutout victory on the season and have outscored opponents 32-14 in their first seven games.
