I am absolutely for anything that will raise awareness for an important cause, especially if the cause is to help protect children who live in constant fear of abuse. That being said, changing a profile picture did not help anyone.

PuppetART theater uses performances as a cultural ‘time machine’

In a theater in the center of Detroit, Igor Gozman and his PuppetART companions are working to preserve and promote the city’s rich history of puppetry. The troupe, which started as a traveling group of puppeteers, has been performing in Detroit for the past 15 years. Each year, they perform a repertoire of 12 shows, each from a different cultural background.

Rockin’ Cupcakes, a themed cupcake bakery, will hold a grand opening event sometime during mid-November in Rochester. The shop, run by Jim and Mary Ohngren, is a fusion of rock 'n' roll culture and gourmet cupcake baking. “The store comes from my love for rock and roll and my wife’s love of baking,” Jim Ohngren said.

Stem Cell Summit attracts campus attention

The World Stem Cell Summit was held from Oct. 4-6 in Detroit. The summit, which was organized by the Genetic Institute in Florida, was partially sponsored by Oakland University. The summit was also sponsored by large universities with medical research centers, including Michigan State University, University of Michigan and Wayne State University.

Director recommends study abroad programs

Currently, OU offers programs to 18 different countries on five different continents. AHA International, a national organization dedicated to creating student programs for studying abroad, sponsors twelve of these trips.
