A new kind of collaboration

In today’s digital age, people don’t have to live in the same area to make music together.

Musicians Odai “Moonchild” Baylor and Drew “Drew32” Parks will meet for the first time at the release party for Baylor’s new CD — on which the two collaborated on a new song, “I’m a Beast” via the Internet — a free event at the Pike Room of the Crofoot Ballroom in Pontiac on Dec. 27 at 9 p.m.

Collaborating through e-mail and Twitter, Baylor sent a beat to Parks, who, from there, wrote the lyrics.

Parks, an Oakland University sophomore and business major, has been producing his own music since his first CD release when he was 14-years-old.

Baylor —who now lives in Arizona — and Parks will meet for the first time when Baylor comes to town for the upcoming show.

Rob “Robo Robb” Lauzon, an OU alumnus who will be hosting the release party, introduced Baylor and Parks to each other.

Lauzon, who hosts his own radio show “Robo Robb Radio Saturdays” on WXOU, has been creating music with Baylor since high school — Baylor even produced Lauzon’s first album back in 2006.

“Robo is my boy,” Baylor said. He has been my best friend since high school.”

Some of the tracks on the album have been finished for two to three years and have never been released until now, according to Baylor. Baylor makes all the beats and works with different artists for the lyrics to complete the songs.

“I’m aspiring to make it my career,” he said. “I’m trying to make it, that’s the plan for the next few years. I know what I like. I know what I want to hear. I can definitely come up with melodies, but as far as singing or rapping, you’re probably not going to hear my voice.”

The album, “Love for the Music: Part II” will be released on iTunes and Baylor’s website on Dec. 23. Copies of the album will also be available at the show.

“I’m excited for people to hear it,” Baylor said. “Drew is really talented.”

Tickets to event are free and doors open at 9 p.m.
