The Oakland University women’s tennis team lost to Michigan State  7-0 on Wednesday at the MSU Indoor Tennis Courts.

This was the first-ever meeting between MSU and the Golden Grizzlies.

Brittany Baxter and Caryn Kimmel fought hard in at match at No. 3 doubles, but lost 8-5. The Spartans won in No. 1 and No. 2 doubles 8-3, respectively.

Baxter lost at No. 5 singles to Julianne Gruber 6-1, 6-2. Caitlyn Young also gave a strong performance, falling 6-3, 6-2 against Nichole Herzog at No. 1 singles.

“For it to be our first match against a Big Ten opponent, I think we showed that we could hit with them,” Oakland head coach Heather Redshaw said. “Our doubles played well again, but our singles play needs improvement.”

The Golden Grizzlies will host Akron on Saturday at 5:30PM. The match will be played at the Bloomfield Tennis Club.
