Nine Golden Grizzlies garner Summit League honors

The Summit League announced its end-of-year awards today for men’s and women’s basketball. Nine Golden Grizzlies received recognition by the league.

Senior center Keith Benson garnered several distinctions, as he was named conference Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, and was selected First Team All-Summit League.

Reggie Hamilton, a junior guard, was also named to the first team.

Head coach Greg Kampe earned Coach of the Year honors for the second consecutive season after guiding Oakland University to another 17-1 conference record.

Senior Larry Wright was chosen as the Sixth Man of the Year for his efforts coming off the bench for much of the season.

Will Hudson was a Second Team All-conference selection, while redshirt freshman Travis Bader was named as one the league’s All-Newcomer team.

From the women’s team, sophomore forward Bethany Watterworth received the First Team distinction, improving on last year’s Second Team nod.

Junior guard Sharise Calhoun garnered an honorable mention designation, while freshman Zakiya Minifee was named to the All-Newcomer team.
