The Michigan Press Association awarded The Oakland Post with a “General Excellence” award.

“I think it’s about time that our staff is recognized for their hard work and their professionalism,” said Holly Gilbert, adjunct journalism instructor and professional advisor to The Oakland Post. “The paper’s editorial content and its design are exceptional, and this year the website has been brought to a new level.”

The award was one of a handful in the state and the only in Division 2, the division for weekly papers. The Oakland Post won three awards from MPA last year in addition to a Newspaper Pacemaker Finalist Award.

Lead ads manager Jillian Field will be accepting the award at the MPA’s Winter Convention in Grand Rapids on Saturday, Jan. 30.
